The Beta Mu Zeta Chapter was organized and chartered in Gastonia, NC on April 7th, 1956. With the vision that service to our community would be our greatest legacy, these women laid the foundation for Beta Mu Zeta to make a difference.
In October of 2016, after being dormant for 10 years the chapter was re-chartered by: Erika Jones, Dr. Sherra' Watkins, Tyjuara Terrelonge, Tracie Orr, Crystal Thurmond, Cynthia Bethune-Odom, Chrystal Broome, Keya Youmans, Debrena Crawford, Roslyn Ervin, and Ashley Baucom.
In its sixty-four(64) year history, Beta Mu Zeta has coordinated hundreds of events ranging from Adopting Lingerfelt Elementary, Backpack Drives, Veterans Day, March of Dimes, Sisterhood Nights, Finer & Co., just to name a few. The chapter prides itself on being the conduit to bring members of the community together from all walks of life. We are here simply to serve others and will do the work to ensure than an impact is made.
In November 2019 Beta Mu Zeta established a separate non-profit organization to increase the capacity in which they could provide assistance to the community. The Legacy of Finer Womanhood Foundation (also referred to as the Zetas of Gastonia) is a 501c(3) organization established to foster the ideals of service, scholarship, and unity among mankind. Through the Foundation, the Zetas of Gastonia are able to award scholarships to deserving area high school students on an annual basis. The Legacy of Finer Womanhood Scholarship was established to recognize the achievements and potential of young women and to assist them financially with their pursuit of higher education. The Zetas of Gastonia awards scholarships to high school seniors (Gaston County), and continuing education students at Gaston College.
Beta Mu Zeta has experienced several victories throughout it’s long history; below is a brief timeline of notable events:
· In the 1980's as part of our national initiative, the chapter began and operated a successful Stork's Nest program. The Stork's Nest program is designed to promote prenatal care participation and healthy behaviors during the pregnancy.
Beta Mu Zeta is Stronger Together, we cannot execute and serve our community without the support of each other!
